Connection Between Oral Health And Overall Health

Posted by Charlie Jackson On December - 21 - 2013

Believe it or not, oral health is directly and intrinsically linked to overall health. This is simply because the mouth, like many areas of the body, gets teemed with bacteria and lack of proper oral hygiene can allow bacteria to reach levels that may lead to oral infections like gum diseases and tooth decay. These oral health complications can even enhance the risk of many diseases, mild or severe.

Connection Between Oral Health And Overall Health

Poor oral health may be associated with osteoporosis, a health condition in which bones start getting weak and brittle. This health condition might be associated with tooth loss and periodontal bone loss. Loss of teeth before the age of 35 could be a risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease. According to some studies, infections and inflammation caused by oral bacteria may lead to clogged arteries, heart diseases, and stroke. People with gum diseases find it difficult to control their blood sugar levels as compared to those who create and maintain high standards of oral health and hygiene.

In order to maintain high standards of oral health, it is important for everyone to brush teeth at least twice a day. One should floss daily and remember to replace the toothbrush every 3-4 months or sooner if the brush bristles are frayed. Moreover, it is highly recommended to schedule regular dental checkups for early detection and treatment of oral health conditions. The best thing is that you can easily access some of the most reputed dentists around you by simply making a customized search like Dental Veneers in Charlotte North Carolina. This search will redirect you to the websites of the best oral health specialists and you can then compare their products, services, specializations, and experiences to find the right dentist for you.

Last but not the least, you should always emphasize on oral health as such good care of your teeth, the tongue, and gums would be a great investment in your overall health.
