Oz men struggle with rejection in bedroom

Australian men are struggling with rejection in the bedroom, according to a sex therapist.

Bettina Arndt said women, who cook and clean for their men, might be better off by offering sex to them.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

Arndt, who is coming to Byron Bay and Brisbane for a series of relationship talks, said many women would rather eat chocolates, get a good night’s sleep, read a good book “or read any book” than have sex.

“Women are shutting up shop. They work so hard to please their partners by keeping a beautiful house and cooking nice meals and so on, when a 10-minute bonk might be a better option every now and then,” the Courier Mail quoted her as saying.

Arndt interviewed 150 men for a new book, ‘What Men Want In Bed’, and found many of them were locked in a “heroic” emotional struggle over their love for their partners and their inability to get enough or, in some cases, any sex.

“A lot of men talk about the fact they do find it difficult to be constantly rejected,” she said.

She added, “Most of us don’t want to live with our room-mate or sister – intimacy is what makes relationships unique.”

Scientists issued warning on rise of new superbugs

Posted by admin On April - 8 - 2011

Scientists issued warning on rise of new superbugsWelsh scientists have spoken of the growing public health emergency in India after discovering antibiotic-resistant superbugs in the drinking water supply.

The Cardiff University team that discovered the NDM-1 gene that creates the new breed of superbugs said some of the resistant bacteria found in New Delhi could cause dysentery and cholera.

From Walesonline.co.uk:

Their findings emerged as the World Health Organisation today said there was less than a handful of antibiotics currently in the pipeline to combat these types of superbugs.

It added that the worldwide spread of genes resistant to last-resort antibiotics, like NDM-1 which has been already been found in people in South Wales, is a “nightmare scenario”.

Professor Tim Walsh, of Cardiff University’s School of Medicine, who led the research in New Delhi, said: “We found resistant bacteria in public water used for drinking, washing and food preparation and also in pools and rivulets in heavily-populated areas where children play.

The discovery was termed as “extremely worrying” by the researchers.

Arimidex – Potent Antiestrogen

Posted by admin On March - 26 - 2011

Arimidex – Potent AntiestrogenIn the world of professional sports, Arimidex is one of the most trusted antiestrogens. This is not only because legal Arimidex can be purchased easily online, with or without a prescription, but also because this highly safe antiestrogen can promote dramatic benefits in a short span of time.

Let us read more about Arimidex to develop a clear and complete insight.

Arimidex, also known as Liquidex or Anastrozole, can be classified as a non-steroidal drug used by individuals, especially by sportsmen on steroids, to stay away from side effects of estrogens and aromatizable steroids like testosterone suspension, testosterone cypionate, and testosterone enanthate.

In the world of healthcare, Arimidex is routinely recommended to post menopausal women suffering from breast cancer when standard therapies such as Tamoxifen have failed to meet expectations. In addition to all these advantages, Arimidex is also useful to reduce the blood estradiol concentrations, size, and growth of cancerous tumors. The antiestrogen is also recommended to hypogonadal men afflicted with deficiency of testosterone.

When taken in an oral form, this antiestrogen enters the liver where more than 90 percent of it is broken down into inactive metabolites. This drug can be used even by individuals with kidney impairment, as it is not excreted in the urine.

Having an active life of 42-48 hours, Arimidex can enhance the level of testosterone to a considerable extent and help sportsmen reap optimum benefits of anabolic steroids and performance enhancing drugs during a steroid cycle. The recommended dose of Arimidex is one tablet of 1 mg per day and this dose should not be abused else it can lead to side effects like sudden headache, sudden numbness, swollen glands, or problems with speech.

Acupuncture to cool down hot flushes

Acupuncture to cool down hot flushes

A recently concluded study has revealed that acupuncture can help women suffering from the most common symptoms of menoapause.

The study suggested that acupuncture, the ancient Chinese needle therapy, could be used for curbing the severity of hot flushes and for relieving mood swings among women receiving it regularly.

From Dailymail.co.uk:

Hot flushes can suddenly produce an uncomfortable feeling of intense heat, while frequent flushes at night can disrupt sleep.

The symptoms are caused by the dilation of blood vessels in the skin and are linked to hormone imbalances, but they are still not fully understood.

Medication proven to combat flushes includes Hormone Replacement Therapy and some antidepressants, which appear to damp down the body’s blood vessel system.

In the study, which was published in the journal Acupuncture in Medicine, Turkish researchers looked at 53 menopausal women.

Twenty seven received acupuncture twice a week for ten weeks. This involved placing needles at certain points on the body to boost energy and release endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers.

David Sturdee, president of the International Menopause Society, however said: ‘The evidence is not strong from previous studies and this a small trial.

Alcoholics can become sober by helping others

Posted by admin On February - 25 - 2011

Alcoholics can become sober by helping othersParticipating in community service activities and helping others can help alcoholics and other addicts become and stay sober, according to a researcher from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Maria E. Pagano, associate professor of psychiatry at the School of Medicine, in a review article shed light on the role of helping in addiction recovery.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

“The research indicates that getting active in service helps alcoholics and other addicts become sober and stay sober, and suggests this approach is applicable to all treatment-seeking individuals with a desire to not drink or use drugs. Helping others in the program of AA has forged a therapy based on the kinship of common suffering and has vast potential,” Dr. Pagano says.

In her research, Dr. Pagano highlights the helper therapy principle (HTP), a concept embodied by AA, as a means of diminishing egocentrism or selfishness, a root cause of addiction.

The HTP is based on the theory that, when a person helps another individual with a similar condition, they help themselves. The principle is reflected in the stated purpose of AA, which is to help individuals “stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.”

Helping other alcoholics is viewed as the foundation for the alcoholic helper to stay on the path to recovery, Dr. Pagano says in her overview of the AA program. In addition to outlining the basis for AA-related helping,

Dr. Pagano reviews the data to date that illustrates the health and mental health benefits derived from helping others. She likewise examines several empirical studies she conducted previously which show how helping others in 12-step programs of recovery help the recovering individual to stay sober.

The article has been published in the Volume 29 issue of Alcoholism Treatment Quarterly.

Chocolate better than many fruit juices

According to a new study conducted by a US-based chocolate company, chocolate is healthier than many fruit juices and is a ’superfood’ in its own right.

Debra Millar, who led the study, said chocolate should be labelled a ’superfruit’.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

Superfoods are high in anti-oxidants and compounds that help prevent damage to healthy cells.

Researchers from the Hershey Centre for Health & Nutrition in the US found that powdered dark chocolate had more anti-oxidants and polyphenols, believed to protect us from cancer and cardiac conditions, the Chemistry Central Journal reports.

They compared single servings of dark chocolate, cocoa, and hot chocolate mix with fruit juices including acai berries, cranberries and pomegranates, according to a Hershey statement.

Both dark chocolate and cocoa had more antioxidant activity and more flavonols than fruit as per the research.

Pharmacists worried over use of morning pills

Posted by admin On January - 8 - 2011

Pharmacists worried over use of morning pillsMany women are risking their health by using the morning after pill after unprotected sex, according to British pharmacists.

A recent poll in Britain has revealed that one-fifth of women used the emergency contraceptive last year.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

The Co-Operative Pharmacy conducted the survey on 3,000 people and found that 20 percent of women aged 18 to 35 took the emergency pill last year. The same proportion said that heavy drinking or taking drugs led to them not using contraception with a new partner.

One in 50 had used the morning after pill three times or more in 2010, the Telegraph reports.

Among 18 to 21-year-olds, one in 50 said they preferred using it as ‘a regular form of contraception’.

But Mandeep Mudhar, who heads the National Health Service development at The Co-operative Pharmacy, warned that women should not be using the morning after pill in such a manner.

‘The morning after pill should be a last resort to prevent an unwanted pregnancy after having unprotected sex or if another method of contraception has failed, such as if you have forgotten to take one of your contraceptive pills,’ Mudhar said.

A sixth of women in the survey admitted to having had a sexually-transmitted infection.

‘The emergency contraceptive pill does not protect against sexually transmitted infections,’ Mudhar added.

Mystery about HIV infection solved

Posted by admin On November - 30 - 2010

Mystery about HIV infection solvedScientists at the Gladstone Institute of Virology and Immunology have been able to solve a long-standing mystery about HIV infection as to how the virus promotes the death of CD4 T cells.

The study reveals that the virus actually makes an entry into the CD4 T cells to make a DNA copy of its reverse transcription, according to Dr. Gilad Doitsh, who performed many of the studies and is the lead author of the paper.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

The researchers identified the precise step in which the CD4 T cells die by using different anti-HIV drugs to arrest the virus at different points in its life cycle. Drugs that blocked viral entry or that blocked the start of reverse transcription stopped the killing.

Conversely, drugs that acted later in the life cycle did not. Importantly, the researchers used primary human lymphoid tissues, such as tonsil and spleen to uncover this death pathway. These and other lymphoid tissues contain over 98pc of the body’s CD4 T cells and represent the major site where the virus reproduces itself.

The team also found that the dying cells do not go silently into the night. As they die, these cells release proteins, called cytokines, that cause inflammation and that attract healthy cellular targets promoting repeated rounds of infection and cell death. Scientists have long been interested in why HIV infection and inflammation seem to go hand in hand. This study reveals a new mechanism linking the virus to inflammation.

The findings have been reported in the November 24th issue of Cell, a Cell Press publication.

Parents' preferences for nutritious food wither while shopping for kidsA new research has suggested that preferences of parents when it comes to nutritious food go down to as much as 50 percent when they are buying health products for their kids and not for themselves.

Study author Irwin Levin of the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences said that the likely explanation is because of their beliefs about what their children will accept.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

“Perhaps they think the child won’t eat the healthy option, or they suspect that the child will beg for the unhealthy foods,” he said.

The study involved 43 seven-year-old children and one of their parents (usually the mother), who rated eight combinations of cards displaying food products.

They rated each item on a five-point scale indicating how good or bad they thought it was. Kids indicated how they’d feel if their parents bought the product, and parents indicated the likelihood of purchasing the product for themselves and for their children.

Results showed that boys were 20 percent more likely to rate unhealthy products higher, while girls were 20 percent more likely to rate healthy foods higher.

“Other studies have found evidence of this as well,” Irwin Levin said.

The findings were published in the Journal of Consumer Behaviour.

Health Supplements – What’s Your Opinion?

Posted by admin On June - 22 - 2010

Health Supplements are for youIf you have been reading about health supplements and thinking why they are recommended every where when some people say that they are harmful, it is time for you need to correct your facts.

Health supplements do not result in any side effects unless abused or of a low grade. One can only gain benefits from them if used under qualified medical guidance and as per recommendations.

From Healthandsuppliments.com:

In this blog meant to create general awareness among the masses, we would like to let you know that good health is one thing that cannot be compromised at any stage of time. If you think that your body can take anything that comes its way then you need to think twice. Just because your body has not succumbed to any health risks by now does not mean that it will also not fall in the future. However, the chances are that the bad times will not be too far if you persist with this kind of health approach.

This is exactly where health supplements come into the picture. Apart from health supplements, you can even take popular supplements such as Dianabol, Creatine Serum, Acetyl L-Carnitine, Soy Protein, Glucosamine, and Whey Protein for staying close to health and fitness.

It is sad to know that there are things people know about health but do not implement. Even though good sense prevails over in the initial stages, it comes down after a self-realization of failure (that does not exist at all). It is strange to even note that people expect immediate results from exercise sessions and health supplements after torturing their own body for so many years.  People tend to protect themselves from a disease only when it reaches them and find it wasteful to spend any time in preventing themselves.

In short, be aware, be healthy!
