Harvest time for Farmville

Posted by admin On December - 20 - 2011

Harvest time for FarmvilleThe shares of Farmville creator Zynga have start trading on stock markets from 16th December 2011.

The company priced its shares at $10, raising $1 billion, in the biggest internet IPO since Google went public in 2004. The IPO of Zynga should see the company valued at $7 billion – larger than many gaming companies and on a par with game giants such as Electronic Arts.

Ben Parfitt, writing in gaming trade title MCV said, that the IPO could ‘make it more valuable than gaming heavyweight EA, which predates the firm by 25 years.’

Zynga doesn’t really make games for gamers – someone who plays Call of Duty every evening is unlikely to play Farmville, and vice-versa,’ says Alex Simmons, editor-in-chief of gaming site IGN.

Aggressive drivers often relate with their vehicles

Posted by admin On November - 22 - 2011

Aggressive drivers often relate with their vehiclesA new study has warned that viewing your car as an extension of yourself could lead to aggressive driving.

“It explains much of the phenomenon we knew existed,” lead author Ayalla Ruvio, an assistant professor of marketing at Temple University Fox School of Business in Philadelphia, said in a university news release.

From news.yahoo.com:

Ruvio and a colleague used 134 surveys of men and women in Israel, average age 23.5 years, to examine the influence of personality, attitudes and values on driving. The researchers also looked at the factors of risk attraction, impulsivity, driving as a hedonistic activity and perceptions about time pressures among another 298 people.

The study authors found that people who believe their car is a reflection of their self-identity are more likely to drive aggressively and disobey the rules of the road, and that people with compulsive tendencies are more likely to drive aggressively without regard for potential consequences.

The study is published in the November issue of the journal Psychology & Marketing.

Depot Marine Conquers Bodybuilding Competition

Posted by admin On August - 9 - 2011

Depot Marine Conquers Bodybuilding CompetitionLance Cpl. Dylan A. Bruner, a finance clerk with Service Company, Headquarters and Service Battalion, has taken the first place in the Western All Forces Lightweight Bodybuilding Competition.

Bruner has established the perfect example for his fellow Marines by eating a healthy diet and going above and beyond his physical capabilities.

From Dvidshub.net:

Carbohydrate cycling is the same concept as changing up a workout in the gym. If someone continues to do the same workout every day, they can plateau. This practice can keep the metabolism guessing. Bruner explains besides fluctuating his carbohydrate intake, he would also take in a large amount of protein and very low amount of fat.

“You go to the gym everyday and see these people that look the same all the time, but if you do hard work and set your mind to it, you can do a lot with your body,” said Bruner.

His hard work paid off when he took first place in the competition.

“When I won all I could think about was how hungry I was and I just wanted to eat,” said Bruner.

“I did what is called [carbohydrate] cycling,” said Bruner. “I only ate one-hundred grams of carbohydrates a day, except weekends I would eat a little more.”

One farmer says to me, “You cannot live on vegetable food solely, for it furnishes nothing to make the bones with;” and so he religiously devotes a part of his day to supplying himself with the raw material of bones; walking all the while he talks behind his oxen, which, with vegetable-made bones, jerk him and his lumbering plow along in spite of every obstacle. – Henry David Thoreau

India becoming surrogate pregnancy hub

India becoming surrogate pregnancy hub

Gynaecology experts are of the view that India could become a global hub in the field of surrogate pregnancy, an assisted reproductive technique (ART) in which a woman carries in her womb the baby of another woman.

This is primarily because of the healthier lifestyles of to-be mothers from India and lower costs compared to the West.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

‘The reason why surrogate pregnancy is rising is mainly because of the low-cost factor, and the preferably healthy lifestyle of Indian women, much needed during pregnancy,’ Shivani Sachdev Gour, fertility expert and gynaecologist, told IANS.

‘Women here are less exposed to a lifestyle with drugs, alcohol and smoking, which has a positive impact on the health of the baby as well as the mother. Also surrogacy laws in India are much lenient as compared to other countries,’ added Gour.

She says she gets around 25 patients every month from countries like Britain, the US, and countries in the Middle East at the Surrogacy Centre of India Healthcare, a private hospital she runs in south Delhi.

While the cost of treatment and expenses involved in surrogate pregnancy vary between Rs.50,000 and Rs.100,000 ($1,000 and $2,000) in India, the cost in other countries like the US and Britain is nearly five times that in India, said Gour.

Alka Kriplani, professor at the department of obstetrics and gynaecology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), ‘Surrogacy is advised in cases of malformed uterus, or when pregnancy is life-threatening. But the reasons are slowly expanding in our country.’

Myths about exercises

Posted by admin On September - 13 - 2010

Myths about exercisesIf you have recently joined the gym after being inspired by the numerous models and actors flaunting their hot bodies, it is time for you to know about some misconceptions about bodybuilding and workouts so that you do not fall prey to failure or health problems.

It is important for you to note that good sleep of 8-9 hours and post workout nutrition are highly essential and beneficial for you in order to increase protein synthesis, suppress cortisol, enhance recovery, and replenish glycogen.

From Timesofindia.indiatimes.com:

Exercising on empty stomach

According to fitness expert Nawaz Modi Singhania, one of the most common mistakes people make when they start to workout is by starting to exercise on an empty stomach. “Working out on an empty stomach could lead to fatigue, even before your body actually starts metabolising the fat,” she says. “But don’t exercise on a full stomach either.” The healthy thing to do is to not eat a heavy meal for at least an hour before you begin your workout. Instead have a light health snack. “A fruit or health biscuits are a good option,” she says.

Join a gym to get fit

This is another common misconception, point out health experts. Any form of activity that gives your body an overall workout including cycling, dancing, jogging or even swimming is just as good a way to get fit as joining a gym. As long as you get exercise in some form, being fit need not be synonymous with gymming.

Women bulk up like men if they do weights

“Regular workouts only make the muscles firm and taut. It’s a myth that women bulk up like men do,” clarifies clinical fitness specialist Namita Jain. “Unless a woman works towards achieving that look, it’s highly unlikely, that she will bulk up by default,” adds Namita.

Expecting miracles

The perfectly-sculpted bodies that you see on TV are not made over a day. It needs patience, dietary discipline and a lot of hardwork. Fitness instructors who promise you otherwise in just a few weeks are exactly the ones you’d want to avoid.

We hope that these easy-to-follow and effective tips help you get in good shape.
