Burress Says No ‘Extra Juice’ for Giants

Posted by admin On August - 27 - 2011

Plaxico Burress walked into the New York Giants‘ training facility a few years ago that reminded him of his days when the Jets beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl in 2008.

“There’s no anger toward anybody over there,” said the Jets wide receiver, now on the other side of the New York-New Jersey-area rivalry. “Everything that happened to me, I brought it upon myself.”

From NYTimes.com:

Burress Says No 'Extra Juice' for GiantsThe fines by the team. The disagreements with coach Tom Coughlin. His release in April 2009. The 20-month prison sentence he served for accidentally shooting himself in a Manhattan nightclub.

Some fans and media believed the Giants had a good chance of going back to the Super Bowl before that incident. They finished 12-4, but lost to Philadelphia in the divisional round of the playoffs.

“We had a really good team, there’s no doubt about it,” he said. “We definitely had some special players. We had a good thing going. It’s unfortunate that everything happened the way that it did.

“Everything went well. It was a great meeting. Business is business, and now I’m over here,” Burress said.

Birth Control For Women As Good As Vasectomy

Posted by admin On August - 20 - 2011

Birth Control For Women As Good As VasectomyA new method that involves no anesthetic, no cutting, and just a simple 20-minute process to insert two tiny spring-like implants has come up as an excellent option for women considering sterilization.

The best thing is that the failure rate is one in 1,000, the same as for the male equivalent of tubal ligation, the vasectomy.

From Dailymail.co.uk:

Consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist Martin Farrugia, at the Cadogan Clinic, Sloane Street, London, explains: ‘We use a hysteroscope, basically a thin telescope that is inserted into the neck of the womb, which allows us to see exactly what’s happening.

Once the location of each tube is satisfactorily identified, the surgeon presses a button on the hysteroscope which releases the spring. This then lodges permanently in each tube at a depth of about two centimetres. The implant contains polyethylene plastic fibres which cause a reaction, known as fibrosis, that gradually blocks the tubes with scar tissue over a period of two to three months.’

Mr Farrugia is a keen advocate of this method of permanent contraception and was involved in its European trials in 2000.

The only downfall is that the Essure process is irreversible unlike tubal ligation.

Weetabix Vitamin Could Save Love Lives Of Men With Erection Problems

High doses of niacin, also known as vitamin B3, could be useful in improving the performance of men suffering from severe impotence.

Niacin is a vitamin found in breakfast cereals such as porridge and Weetabix.

From Dailymail.co.uk:

Like statins, the anti-cholesterol drugs prescribed to millions of people in the UK, niacin can help to reduce levels of harmful fats that clog up the body’s main arteries.

It’s thought taking it every day helps to reduce cholesterol deposits in the main arteries in the pelvis, allowing more blood to reach the genitals.

It may also work by helping blood vessels to dilate, which improves blood flow.

But the quantities involved, up to 1,500mg a day, cannot be consumed by simply eating an extra bowl of cereal or other niacin-rich foods, such as meat, fish, eggs or milk.

In fact, one person would need to scoff around 580 Weetabix biscuits to get the equivalent amount eaten by each of the 161 men who took part in the study.

The study was carried out by researchers from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Depot Marine Conquers Bodybuilding Competition

Posted by admin On August - 9 - 2011

Depot Marine Conquers Bodybuilding CompetitionLance Cpl. Dylan A. Bruner, a finance clerk with Service Company, Headquarters and Service Battalion, has taken the first place in the Western All Forces Lightweight Bodybuilding Competition.

Bruner has established the perfect example for his fellow Marines by eating a healthy diet and going above and beyond his physical capabilities.

From Dvidshub.net:

Carbohydrate cycling is the same concept as changing up a workout in the gym. If someone continues to do the same workout every day, they can plateau. This practice can keep the metabolism guessing. Bruner explains besides fluctuating his carbohydrate intake, he would also take in a large amount of protein and very low amount of fat.

“You go to the gym everyday and see these people that look the same all the time, but if you do hard work and set your mind to it, you can do a lot with your body,” said Bruner.

His hard work paid off when he took first place in the competition.

“When I won all I could think about was how hungry I was and I just wanted to eat,” said Bruner.

“I did what is called [carbohydrate] cycling,” said Bruner. “I only ate one-hundred grams of carbohydrates a day, except weekends I would eat a little more.”

Anti-doping chiefs applaud new HGH tests

Posted by admin On August - 9 - 2011

Decision of the National Football League (NFL) to test for human growth hormone has been applauded by anti-doping crusaders.

It is believed that the NFL’s decision will put pressure on other North American professional leagues to step up their drug-testing efforts.

From Reuters.com:

Anti-doping chiefs applaud new HGH testsWhile the NFL provided few details about their testing procedures, the decision to start testing was regarded as a major breakthrough given that North American sports have traditionally been reluctant to embrace doping tests and impose punishments.

Last year, Major League Baseball (MLB) implemented random blood testing for HGH in the minor leagues, but has yet to introduce it at the major league level.

Tougher drug-testing was also on the agenda in the ongoing talks between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and their players association over a new collective bargaining agreement while the National Hockey League (NHL) has had meetings with WADA about beefing up its testing, which will also be part of its next contract negotiations.

“The NFL collective agreement that allows for HGH testing of their players is a positive development in the fight against doping in sport,” WADA director general David Howman told Reuters.
